Heat Shrink Tubing

Information Relating to Heat Shrink Tubing

Additional Information

As technology improves and the world turns, it seems that the usefulness of some items tends to wane. I wonder if calculator sales have taken a hit now that every person with a cell phone will never need a module again? Regardless, something that will most certainly not be left in a corner any time soon is heat shrink tubing, the uses for which are only growing. While heat shrink may have had humble beginnings in radiation chemistry, it is used across the whole spectrum of industries to guard against abrasives, ensure a clean seal and snugly grip joints. We happen to have a few different types in our battalion of products, designed to hug your applications uniquely, depending on your needs.

Polyolefin tubing is the most commonly crafted type of heat shrink, and is used exhaustively in the military and aerospace industries, just to give it some clout. Heat shrink is measured by a ratio comparing it's initial expanded size with the size it will shrink to, with 2:1 being the most common, though we do carry high grade tubing in wider ratio options. Our standard 2:1 Polyolefin Heat Shrink has a shrink temperature of 194°F (90°C), and will provide resistance against chemicals and oils, not just as abrasion coverage or a sealant. We have various colors available for cable identification, however only black is advised for UV resistance. It meets all UL, CSA and MIL requirements, as do our other types. Our Flame Retardant Heat Shrink is adhesive lined, making it a superhero, watertight sealant ideal for electrical insulation. It has a shrink ratio of 3:1, and the flame retardant jacket allows for a broad range of uses in extreme settings. Also adhesive lined is the 3:1 Heavy Wall heat shrink, which is well suited for tough conditions such as direct-buried installations. Our 2:1 Semi-Rigid Kynar Heat Shrink Tubing is crafted from PVF2 tubing, and provides the best resistance to abrasion along with outstanding cut-through resistance. If your applications may fall victim to external impact, this tubing is ideal for defense. With our 2:1 Neoprene Flame Retardant Heat Shrink Tubing you have heat shrink which will remain optimally flexible despite lower temperatures, so outdoor applications rejoice! Neoprene is ideal for the elements, and will keep contents sealed and protected despite weather and climate. Finally, with the largest shrink ratio we carry, there is the 4:1 Single Wall Flame Retardant heat shrink.

These different types of tubing are going to allow you to insulate devices, protect resistors and capacitors, provide wire strain relief along with sealant and corrosion defense. They can also give a professional look to applications, and provide braided sleeving with attractive and protective ends. Since no professional tools are usually required (though a heat gun is definitely suggested to maintain optimal and uniform shrinkage.
